What Linger Is

Linger is a trip planning and journaling app for families and groups. We help you plan activities, capture memories, and share trips with the people you travel with.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. We use this to create and identify your account.

Trip and activity data

You provide trip details (titles, dates, destinations), activities (names, locations, times, notes), and traveler information (names and birth dates for age-appropriate content). This is the core of what Linger does.

Photos and voice memos

You may upload photos and record voice memos to document your trips. These are stored securely and only shared with people you explicitly invite to your trip.

Usage data

We collect your browser timezone (via a cookie) to display times correctly. We may use privacy-focused analytics tools to understand how the Service is used and to improve it. We do not serve ads or sell your data to advertisers.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and operate Linger — your trips, activities, and shared plans
• To personalize content, such as AI-generated activity descriptions and age-appropriate challenges
• To send transactional emails (trip invitations, import notifications)
• To improve the service

Third-Party Services

Linger uses the following services to operate:

• Google OAuth — for sign-in authentication
• Google Places — for location search and place details
• AI services — for generating activity descriptions, personalized recommendations, and trip content. We may send activity titles, destinations, traveler first names, and age groups to tailor recommendations to your group. We do not send email addresses or other account data. We share the least amount of information necessary to give you the best experience.
• Postmark — for transactional email delivery
• Analytics — we may use privacy-focused analytics to understand usage patterns and improve the Service. No personal data is sold or shared with advertisers.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.

Sharing and Visibility

Your trips are private by default. When you share a trip with a group, members of that group can see the trip's activities, dates, and locations. They cannot see your personal checklists or notes unless you explicitly share them.

We do not share your data with anyone outside of the people you invite.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States. We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all traffic and encrypted credentials for all sensitive configuration. Uploaded files are stored on persistent block storage attached to our server.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. If you'd like your account and all associated data deleted, contact us and we'll take care of it promptly.

Children's Privacy

Linger is designed for families, but accounts are created by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a child under 13 attempts to sign in, their login will be blocked. Quizzes and trip content for children can be accessed through a parent or guardian's account using the masquerade feature.

Traveler birth dates entered by a parent or guardian are used solely to provide age-appropriate trip content. Any content submitted on behalf of a child — such as photos, voice memos, or quiz responses — is linked to the child's traveler profile under the parent or guardian's account, not to an independent account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll note the date at the top when we do. Continued use of Linger after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
